Topological Photonics on a Small Scale

The study of topological phases light suggests novel opportunities for creating robust optical structures and on-chip photonic devices which are immune against scattering losses structural disorder. However, many recent demonstrations effects in optics employ with relatively large scales. Here we discuss the physics realisation photonics on small scales, dimensions often smaller or comparable wavelength light. We highlight experimental small-scale states based arrays resonant nanoparticles a platform employing higher-order subwavelength highly efficient topologically protected cavities. pay special attention to progress polaritonic summarize our vision future directions nanoscale its impact other fields.
